Great campground and great people. The perfict blend of seclusion and fun!!!

It was a great experience for our family. It gave us a glimpse of the true wilderness. Very peaceful place and the other campers are usually friendly. The store was cute, but there was a limited selection of items. So definitely hit the grocery store before you leave. There was no phone service, but that is to be expected in the Wilderness. 35 Miles on a poorly kept dirt road just to get in. While you are there, watch for moose and deer which wander around the campground, which is really cool. The only problem was the bugs and leeches. Our whole family was covered in bug bites and the leeches would latch on to you and stay on you until you noticed them. Anyway, great experience if you love the wilderness, but remember the high-deet bugspray!

This is a very wilderness experience and although the location was beautiful and canoeing the waters was very scenic, there were some problems. Cell phone coverage was intermittent and spotty at the office area where supposedly there was service. The website said there was a well stocked store with groceries, but that was not the case. We were told there were only English muffins and baloney along with chips and etc. Fortunately we were well supplied with food but it could have been really bad since the nearest store was a 2 hour drive down logging roads. Black flies were out in full force in August and we would have benefited from serious mosquito netting. After 1 night we pulled up tent stakes and headed out because the skies looked ominous and we had serious concerns about lightning and our safety as there was no place to seek shelter. Since the owners were only on site for a few hours in the afternoon, we felt abandoned and especially concerned should the storm be severe. I feel the owners should be more forthcoming as to the camping conditions so that prospective visitors can be most fully prepared and informed.

Beautiful spot to get away from it all. I love the Maine wilderness, where you can get away from all the craziness of the world, including cell phones and TV. We wanted the perfect place to bring our two year old for his first camping experience and we couldn't have picked a better place. They had a nice little play area, nice beach, and a great shallow entrance to Moosehead. There was some rain, thunder, and black flies but that is to be expected in Maine in the summer time. The owners were friendly, helpful, and always there when we needed them (not that we really needed anything). The true wilderness experience. Our son has been begging us to go back this summer... we clearly made the right choice.

Very peaceful but bring LOTS of bug spray!!
